Through the Many Activities Your Child Will :

- Discover the world of insects and care for their own dark wing beetle as they go through their life stages and create a mini-habitat

- Explore the elements and fundamentals of art as they learn about art through history and different cultures
- Build a spaceship and plan a trip to explore the solar system
- Design and market products and learn about the ins and outs of running a business

Small Bug World
We have started our bug zoo and currently have a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach named Roger. We also have Darkling Beetles currently in two life cycle states: larval and pupa. The adult beetles emerged, have laid eggs which have now hatched out as very tiny larva!
Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa)
Lifecycle: egg, nymph, adult
- They are ovoviparous, meaning they give birth to live young.
- They are nocturnal and negatively phototactic, meaning they move away from light.
- They are omnivorous and are attracted to peanut butter, bananas, and oranges.
- They have an exoskeleton and can climb walls easily.
- Males have horns on their heads, while females have flat heads.
- They use spiracles on their bodies to make a hissing noise.
Darkling Beetles (Tenebrionidae)
- Four life cycle states: egg, larva, pupa, and adult
- Darkling beetles are a very large family of beetles. Most are dull black or brown, crawl on the ground, and are scavengers.
Chinese Praying Mantis (Tendora)
- Three life cycles: egg, nymph, and adult
- Most common praying mantis in temperate regions
- The female grows larger than the male and lays an egg sac called an ootheca containing up to around 100 eggs

Customized Learning Plan
Each student has unique needs and a customized learning plan will tailor instruction for what your child needs for optimal growth.
Progress is tracked with research-based low-stress assessments.
Flexible Scheduling
You can choose full-days (4+/hours per day) or half-days (<4 hours per day) or a combination. You can register for a 3, 4, or 5 day week.
It is a year round school with a 3 week break in early July and a 2 week break in December.
Family time is valuable! You do not have to worry about taking time off for family events or vacations because lessons are tailored specifically for your child, we will simply pick up where they left off.
The regular school hours are 8:00-4:00 but you choose your drop-off and pick-up time.
Extended day hours are offered for an additional fee 7:30-8:00 AM and 4:00-5:30 PM
Fundamentals of Literacy
Expedition Learning Studio Uses Research-based Multisensory Instruction.
- Learners will progress through research-based sequential learning skills
- Learners will us multisensory methods to engage and deepen learning skills
- Learners will be provided take-home decodable reading passages, games, and other activities
Foundations of Math
Expedition Learning Studio Uses Research-based Multisensory Instruction.
- Learners will apply carefully sequenced skills and concepts
- Learners will develop deep mathematical understanding through concrete, representational and abstract problem solving
- Learners will be provided engaging enrichment take-home math activities and games
Multisensory
Learners engage multiple senses simultaneously which enhances understanding and solidifies long-term retention. It is when students are engaged in using more than one sense at a time (Visual~Auditory~Kinesthetic~Tactile).
Indoors and Outdoors (not stuck at a desk!)
- Indoor classroom area that offers lots of different types of places to learn in a relaxed comfortable low-stress atmosphere.
- Outdoor classroom (my favorite) that is being expanded to include a nature clubhouse, a raised vegetable garden, a butterfly garden, a composting station, a science/art studio area, and much more!
